Supporting Export Growth Central Java, Garuda Indonesia Opens Cargo Flight Only Direct to Singapore

Jakarta, January 13, 2022 - The national airline Garuda Indonesia today, Thursday (13/01), inaugurated a special direct flight service for cargo for the Semarang - Singapore route, which is part of the Company's ongoing efforts to optimize its cargo business line through the expansion of a special international flight network. cargo, which is also in line with Garuda's commitment to supporting the improvement of the competitiveness of national export commodities through a direct cargo delivery network from the producer's origin area.

During the operation of the flight, Garuda Indonesia transported various Central Java's top commodities such as fishery products as well as various export commodities and other MSME products which were flown with a Boeing B737-800NG fleet with a carrying capacity of up to 12 tons.

The cargo flight only was inaugurated by the CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, together with the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, at Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang.

On this occasion, the CEO, Irfan Setiaputra said that as a national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is always committed to being at the forefront and playing an active role in the recovery of the national economy, primarily through the provision of "connectivity" to support direct call activities for exports of various Indonesia's leading commodities in this is Central Java which has a variety of export products with traffic that continues to show a significant increase every year, especially in the last three years.

"With this direct flight, our hope is that it will further increase the competitiveness of the quality of export commodity products with a faster delivery process via air cargo, especially for superior products such as agricultural products, fisheries which require speedy delivery times and processes in order to maintain the quality of the freshness of the commodity. so that it can produce products that are more competitive in the global arena,” said Irfan.

The opening of the Semarang - Singapore direct flight route is a follow-up to the strategic collaboration carried out by Garuda with the Central Java Provincial Government in maximizing the potential of export commodities through direct air delivery activities supported by Garuda Indonesia cargo flight services.

This special cargo flight for the Semarang - Singapore route is served once a week and departs from Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang at 10.30 LT and arrives at Changi International Airport, Singapore at 13.40 LT.

Irfan further added, "Seeing the many types of commodities originating from Central Java that is superior in the international market, we are optimistic that the expansion of the direct flight network specifically for cargo in the Central Java region can continuously support the development of the MSME sector and bring positive growth to the national trade balance in line with the momentum of national economic revival."

Meanwhile, the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo also expressed his appreciation to Garuda, "We welcome this special cargo flight which departs directly from Semarang to Singapore. Through the availability of this connectivity, we hope that it can become a gateway for SMEs in Central Java to be more improve the quality of its products in order to have more competitive value in the international market."

Along with the increasing trend of air cargo demand which shows promising potential, Garuda Indonesia continues to strengthen the development of its cargo sector business line. Previously, Garuda Indonesia also optimized its cargo flight network to support the movement of national leading export commodities, including by opening special cargo flight routes from Surabaya - Makassar - Hong Kong, Denpasar - Hong Kong and Manado - Narita.
