Tangerang, February 3, 2020 - The Indonesia national airline Garuda Indonesia temporarily suspends flight routes to and from Mainland China as the coronavirus epidemic escalates and following the global emergency status issued by the World Health Organization or WHO.
This is in line with the Government's policy regarding restriction of flight services to and from Mainland China, which will take effect on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020 until a later date.
The temporarily suspend routes include flights from and to five cities of China, viz. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, and Xi'an. At present, Garuda serves as many as 30 flights every week to China.
Meanwhile flights to and from Hong Kong are still served with full supervision together with the relevant authorities.
President Director Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra stated that the temporary suspend of flights to and from China was a form of Garuda Indonesia's serious attention to anticipate the spread of the Coronavirus by prioritizing aspects of flight safety and the safety of both passengers and air crew.
"This policy is a follow-up of Garuda's commitment and full support for the government's efforts to prevent the spread of the virus in Indonesia", added Irfan.
Further Irfan explained that, "Garuda continues to monitor the current situation and will take necessary actions, including providing the latest information, especially related to flight operations".
Due to the temporary suspend, Garuda Indonesia offers a flexible mechanism for flight reschedule and reroute, as well as refund services.
Garuda Indonesia also advises passengers to check flight schedules regularly on Garuda Indonesia's official social media channels such as websites, Twitter and Facebook, especially for routes that are vulnerable to the spread of the Corona virus.
