General Requirement:

  • Animals preferably travel in darkness or semi-darkness
  • This species should be kept in a dark container to avoid stimulation from the outside environment. Animals tend to become aggressive if disturbed by outside disturbances or noise
  • Food and water containers should be provided and should be placed on the floor. Food intake should be reduced 2 to 3 days before delivery. Snacks may be provided before delivery and meals should be provided in an emergency. Animals usually do not need to be fed or drunk for 24 hours after the time of delivery. If feeding is required due to unforeseen delays, feed once a day, preferably late afternoon, 1 kg of meat per 20 kg (1 lb per 22 lb) of live animal weight

Packaging:

  • Materials: Wood, metal, 1.3 cm (1.5 in) minimum plywood or similar material, welded gauze, iron rods
  • Dimensions: The container's height should allow the animal to stand upright with its head straight, and the container's length should allow the animal to lie prone. The measurements will differ depending on the species being transported.
  • Frame: Must be bolted or screwed solid wood or metal. Frames should be spaced 2.5 cm (1 in) sideways for air circulation. If the weight of the container plus the animal exceeds 60 kg (132 lb), or the animal is very aggressive, the frame must have additional metal supports

  • Ventilation openings with a minimum diameter of 2.5 cm (1 in), must be made at sides, entrances, and roof
  • Special Requirements: Animals with hard claws must have a container completely lined with sheet iron or other hard metal sheets with ventilation holes that penetrate to the outside
  • Forklift Extrusion: Must be provided if the total weight of the container plus animals exceeds 60 kg (132 Ib)
  • Multiple Containers: Where more than one animal is to be carried in one container, each of the above requirements must apply. Containers can be divided into several compartments using partitions made of metal. There should be separate access to animals so that between animals it is impossible to hurt each other during shipping
